SUN = Your brain (who you are)
Moon = Your heart (How you feel)
Rising = Your passion (who you want to be and try to be)
sun sign = "foundation", ego, the self, the subconscious. Not always visible.
moon sign = emotional nature, how you interact with/react to other people on a daily basis (because that usually happens on an emotional basis). Always visible.
rising sign = others' first impression about your self.
In my opinion, because the rising sign is the very first thing that people notice about you, the rising sign is the most important.
Because the moon sign is always noticeable in someone's behaviour, it is very important as well, but it doesn't match up to the importance of the rising sign.
Now, the sun sign is a completely different matter. I could say it is as important as all the other planets and asteroids put together in your chart, because it represents yourself and your subconscious, your natural instinct. But that would put its importance above even the rising sign and then it should be the very first thing people notice about you. Nothing could be less true, in fact. When a person's sun is in the 12th, it disappears from the "stage", so to speak and retires to behind the scenes. That would make the subconscious truly the subconscious. Completely hidden from everything and everyone except for yourself. The sun is still equally important as the rest of the objects in your chart put together, as the sun is after all the foundations of your personality. It could make or break you.
