Why were Capricorn and Cancer the chosen signs that both tropics of the world wo!

Question: in other words, why were the tropics of the northern and summer hemispheres named after the zodiac signs Capricorn and Cancer?

Answers: in other words, why were the tropics of the northern and summer hemispheres named after the zodiac signs Capricorn and Cancer?

The Tropic of Capricorn is so named because about 2,000 years ago the sun was entering the constellation Capricornus (capricorn is Latin for goat horn) at the December solstice. In modern times the sun appears in the constellation Sagittarius during this time. The change is due to precession of the equinoxes. The word "tropic" itself comes from the Greek tropos, meaning turn, referring to the fact that the sun appears to "turn back" at the solstices.

The other line is called Tropic of Cancer because when it was named the sun was in the location of the constellation of Cancer (Latin for crab) in the sky at the June solstice. However, due to the precession of the equinoxes, the sun is now in the location of the constellation of Taurus at the June solstice. The word "tropic" itself comes from the Greek tropos, meaning turn, referring to the fact that the sun appears to "turn back" at the solstices.

HOPE THAT HELPS!

excellent question!

Astrology is the relation and the movement of the planets as they travel through the constellations.
So the star constellations of Capricorn and Cancer are the ones viewed on the equinox at those locations!

Happy now?
Same answer, different wording!
But at least I never thought that piggin Astrology came before Astronomy!
LOL!

I believe it has something to do with the Zodiac; some star or something was there when the sun was at those latitudes.

Because they are opposite each other on the astrological chart. Maybe they could have used Tropic of Sagittarius and Tropic of Gemini but it's not as catchy as the two 'C's :)

According to Wikipedia: The tropic of Cancer is called Tropic of Cancer because when it was named the sun was in the location of the constellation of Cancer (Latin for crab) in the sky at the June solstice. Check it out.

Because Cancers & Capricorns Rule...lol....just kidding!
