well, its a bit difficult to explain everything. but as for websites, i personally think they are crap. every one i've been to has been wrong about a little or a lot. none have actually been on target. books are the best way. trust me.
all i can say about palmistry is that it is the study of one's life based on that person's hands. the dominant hand (right for righty's, left for lefty's) is possibly most important, as it explains the person's current situations, beliefs, thoughts, and actions. the "other" hand (in palmistry there really isn't a name for it) shows who we were, what we were born with, what we've changed.
there are 2 common mistakes that people make when first learning about palmistry. more importantly, 2 false generalizations that people make about it. first: your life line does NOT fortell your length of life. it stricly states one's vitality and inner strength. so a long life line doesn't mean long life and a short life line doesn't mean a short life. second: the lines aren't the whole deal. in fact, far from it. the nails, the back of the hand, the hand's shape, the hand's color, and symbols.

well in a nutshell, its like the lines in your forehead, which means you worry a lot or the lines at the side of your mouth, it means you sulk a lot of times.
its the same thing, only its in our palm and subconsciously those lines are made.

Palmistry is a tool or a stepping stone into the higher mind.
It can be implemented in two ways & usually a mixture of the both.
The lines themselves, finger pads etc has specific meanings which can be learned & interprited from a traditional perspective.
The other way is the energy from the person via the hand is used, as the hand is often held. This is called psychometry, picking up energy from a held object. This enable clairvoyant & direct from spirit information to be given.
