Question for true believers of astrology. Is Astrology your "religion"!

Question: This is for true believers of astrology. If you don't know your rising sign and what house holds your sun sign than this question is not for you.

I am an atheist, I don't believe their is a god nor a heaven or a hell, etc. But as human beings I think we feel that there has to be a higher order of things for the universe to work the way it does. Everyone must have something to believe in. So in my quest to believe in something, I have took to astrology as my "religion"

How many of you feel the same about astrology. Are you also an atheist of sorts. or do you truly believe that there is a god and also believe in astrology simultaneosly.

I am just wondering if people who believe in astrology are also atheists like myself.

Serious answers only

honestly, i dont believe in astrology as a religion, while some could pass it off as one, it is not popularly recognized as such. people may give the argument that it can be an athiest religion (much like buddhism), but there is no central core belief and no teachings to live by. the fact alone that astrology does not tell us to do anything would take away it's merit as a religion.
however, i do believe it to be a science, not so much as the title astro (stars) ology (study of), the "science" (in quotes as i know some would disagree with me), of astrology uses a tried and sometimes true method of using the stars to predict future events (its most popular form) and to even take into account that the mere fact of someone being born under a certain star (time period, monthly) gives them certain personality traits, strengthened or mixed by rising and moon signs, and even cusps. psychology legend, carl jung, was even a firm believe in astrology, citing it as a semi-accurate source as a window into someone's personality (maybe even holding equal strength to freud's idea of dreams being the "golden road" to the subconscious), however, his report on astrology and personalities was stifled due to the fact that it was not seen a real science and far too vague to actually hold any water.
but yes, i do see astrology as a science as i personally have many friends of many different signs (some closer than others) and these matching signs, despite the socioeconomic differences and environments, do contain very similar cardinal traits. i find that it has a very high correlation with people, having these cardinal traits based on their signs, while not everyone is perfect, alot of people know "someone" that is a"textbook scorpio, pisces ,cancer, virgo, etc..."
:)-hope this helped

Hi, astrology is more of a science. I wouldn't classify it as a religion. I study astrology and it's very helpful in analyzing characters. I believe in my higher self so i am with you on that one. I don't believe in the easter bunny, santa claus, or a little man in the clouds.

Astrology is connected to the positions of planets and stars so in terms of the Universe it fit into my own beliefs as a Pantheist so yes it's closely connected

I only use astrology as a guide for figuring out myself and the people around me and it stops there, you can not depend on it somethings just can't be explained but, I personally think astrology can't be a religion because there is no true deitie(s)...the stars, the universe, on you being an atheist is debatable, although the rhetoric is present, you claiming Astro as your religion.

Astrology is a science which has yet to be proven, not a religion... if the creator(s) of astrology were worshipped then maybe i'd see it as a religion but its only entertainment w/ some truth to it but its also an $$$$$$$$ industry so...

I am a opened mind in everything who exist in the universe So I would never limit myself to astrology I learn new things everyday and thats I want And yes I do beleive in God He is always the first one in my life

I respect you that you choose to be atheist.I am a believer in Jesus Christ.I am in to Astrology myself how ever i don't go to deep in to the subject because of my religious belief.I experienced so far a total of 9 near death accidents and 1 real death before returning to my body. And i have experienced life after death and seen the other side and i know there is a higher order from my own experience.

I believe in God. I also think astrology is somewhat true. But I wouldn't live my life through astrology.

I'd could called an atheist as well but my reason for that is the same for astrology. Lack of evidence for both. Lack of evidence does not make for truth.

If our solar system was created so globes of gas and rock can influence humans behavior, what is the evidence. We are an asteroid impact away from extinction. What makes us so special? Even if you believe this is true, then something would have "designed" astrology. A god? Once again what is the evidence? Also like religion, which type of astrology is the real one? How can we know?

Humans are pattern seeking creatures and all our senses can be fooled. That is why science is our best tool to weed out what is false and the plain lies. It is not in anyway perfect but it is the best we have.

Many have read the best selling book "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins (maybe even you Mike). Dawkins is just as hostile about astrology. He says in an article:

"Scientific truth is too beautiful to be sacrificed for the sake of light entertainment or money. Astrology is an aesthetic affront. It cheapens astronomy, like using Beethoven for commercial jingles. By existing law neither Beethoven nor nature can sue, but perhaps existing law could be changed. If the methods of Astrologers were really shown to be valid it would be a fact of signal importance for science. "

Edit: My beliefs are: Education over ignorance and science over superstition. Embrace reality!
