Silly me, I didn't even put my own opinion on the second part of my question. I like to know the position of peoples' mercury. Shows me how their minds tick and how they communicate.

Wow, are you on the eastern side of your chart! I would say that you are a definite "me" person who goes after what you want. You have a stellium (3 or more planets in one house or sign) in your Twelfth House of secrets, and your First house of personality. You tend to like to be somewhat hidden in motives, but you are a real go getter for what you want.

My Mercury is in Sagittarius, 0 degrees, in my intercepted Sixth house of health. Yes, I seem to get a lot of nervous complaints, being a crabby old lady (Cancer Ascendant).
