Why do you believe in astrology?!

Question:

Why do you believe in astrology?

Honestly, it makes absolutely no sense. None at all. What makes you think that floating chunks of dirt, gas, and material apply to thousands of people?
So, if you can honestly defeat both my question, AND the many reasons posed at http://ranting-gryphon.com/rants/2rant-a... tell me them. I'd love to have my mind changed, but for some strange reason, and I might just be intelligent, but I can't really think of ANY reason to believe in astrology. Thanks.

In direct reply to lokaxss, I completely and totally disagree with your points there. Did you study the exact cause of these? Full moon occurs twice during a month, as we know. It is also often that in 2 months, animal breeding spikes, and at the specific timing of most full moons animals are more likely to fight during territory. The same reason is that for menstrual cycle - If one person is to avoid breeding during a breeding time, then you're more likely to have heavier menstruation. To the second, all material is composed of energy. That's like saying "This pile of dog poo is important, and deciphers the personality cycles because it is composed of organic material like a human." When you think about it, it makes no sense.
To the final question, no, I won't tell you my birth date. I don't want you to be so cruel and group me in with the rest of the people.

To Roy Nicolas:
That was certainly a very interesting read. I enjoy the fact that you're more resolute in projecting your opinions - Don't expect me to get pissed off at that, man. That's an incredible way to work your way to someone's mind, especially if the person is more likely to succumb to second-class vocabulary.
However, I intend to leave my mark as well as I can. You claim that "It's odd that this idea has existed for so many years," or something similar. In which case, only a single rebuttal: Yeah, people have believed in god for several thousand years. It's unlikely that they'll ever be proven correct just by that single fact.
And simply because you personally have had a few experiences yourself fails to prove anything. There are several million people, of whom believe in astrology, that fail to achieve anything with their ideas.
To the blatant "There are chicks in the astrology forums," sorry, I'm gay.
Also, I didn't make the rant I linked to. 2 Gryphon made that.

If you are capable of doubt against astrology, you are capable of doubt also against everything including chemistry and physics. I mean, some of these explanations in pop science are so complex that perhaps no more than 10 indivuduals in your locality currently understand what they are about. And when nobody understands a concept, chances are that nobody ever notice it's erroneous.

As you may have guessed it already, I believe that astrology is the key to natural sciences unification.

To understand the inner meanings of astrology you may precisely have to look into physics, chemistry, the history of mankind, as well as in geology. You may also look under the hood of what is accepted today as liable by pop science yet is not necessarily for shrewd beings, like carbon dating.

And please don't forget that empirism do not prevent frauds to be made. As long as no one notices, anything can be established as a truth out of traficated proofs of miscalculation. Sometimes scientists might even fool themselves and make everyone believe in something that's not real, like in the case of the Piltdown Man.

Maybe that forum is not the best place to get started with the answers you look for. Many documents are available on the Internet, and I suggest to any newcomer that is curious about astrology, that he goes through everything that was written already.

I agree with you, alot of these websites are full of rubbage. But if you compare the Mayan, Vedic, Occidental and Chinese systems, you might come out with pieces of a common ground that can be used as a canvas so that, later, you can tell the sun sign of any girl you happen to look at in the streets!

May you have fun with astrology and have a nice day.

Fine...

Unvisible gods were made real in our ancestors' minds, mostly out of fear and repression. Not so long ago those who did not agree with religion were slain or excommuniated --- and the latter means "thrown out of the capital with nothing to eat" prior to the 13th century. That is not the case of belief in planetary influence.

You may know that polytheism is abit more ancient than monotheism, and that the most ancient "mono" gods of Sumeria were totally linked to planets and stars. Like you had the sun god. And then the moon good. And then the sun god would be slain by his son, and a new sun god would be crowned king of heavens.

Modern Gods are still related to heavens, obviousky because humans once looked at these huge big rolling stones and fireballs, and saw the influence they had on nature. Today it looks absurd, as we live in apartments and nothing so special happens... (really?) ...in the skies.
