what do the people who write them base their predictions on? are they all phonies or is there some explanation for their reasoning?

Jessica, they're phony, and it's all nonsense. Do a search for horoscopes online, and you'll see there are 10 million of them. Which one are you supposed to follow???
Your parents defined who you are, not what month out of the year you were born, or whatever.
How stupid is it to believe that everyone born within a month of each other are all the same, they have the same feelings, same thoughts, same kind of days, and their future is all the same??
Horoscopes are based on the most simple basic things, so that more people can feel like it fits them. I just did a google search for libra characteristics, and it's so obvious.....
Likes: Beauty, gifts, attention, admiration - isn't that almost everybody?? Clearly that was designed to attract females to the nonsense world of horoscopes.
Dislikes: Ugliness, dirt, criticism - Who likes ugliness??? Who likes dirt??? Who likes that stuff?? It is so obvious how they do those things. I'm a libra. Nowhere in there does it tell me I should be quiet and shy, which I am, or anything else that's not obvious.
