How can I learn astrology?!

Question:

How can I learn astrology?

I know there are astrologers who are so good, they can be as accurate as predicting things like exactly what is going to happen within the next few minutes, I want to learn astrology that well, it has been my passion for the past 15 years. How do I go about really learning real astrology?

Hi Felicia0923,

It's great that you want to study and become knowledgeable in astrology. Like you, I've been passionate about astrology for many years, and I find it an invaluable tool for self-knowledge and understanding my life path.

The best way I can answer your question is by outlining the stages by which I learned astrology. Hopefully, you'll find them a good guide in your own study and research.

For a basic understanding of astrology, you need to study and be aware of the following -

-The meaning of each of the 12 signs. This includes understanding the basic meanings of the 4 elements (fire, earth, water, air) and the qualities (cardinal, mutable, fixed)

-The rulership and meaning of the luminaries (Sun/Moon) and planets and how they express in each of the 12 signs.

-The various systems of house division, the meanings of each of the houses, the Ascendant and Midheaven.

-The major aspects that can be formed between the planets and angles (Ascendant/Midheaven) - conjunction, opposition, square, quincunx, semi-square, trine and sextile - and their effects.

-The theory of midpoints and how these impact on a person's chart.

Once you have a good understanding of all of the above, you can then begin to practice integrating them to create a birth chart analysis. It's always best to start with your own chart and the charts of people you know well so that you can gradually learn about the effects of the various planetary placements and aspects. I recommend keeping a database of your charts and making notes on your findings.

From here, you can move onto synastry and comparing the interaspects between two people's charts. Again, the more charts you study and the more you practice your analysis, the more proficient you will become. You also need to learn about creating and analysing the composite chart of a couple.

You then need to familiarise yourself with the various methods of astrological prediction, including transits, progressions and solar chart returns.

There are many more branches of astrological study, but these are the basics.

I highly recommend the book "Parker's Astrology" by Julia and Derek Parker, which I found invaluable to my own study of astrology. This text contains an excellent introduction to all of the above astrological topics.

I hope this helps to get you started.

Good luck and best wishes :)
