I know Aries & Libra are opposites, but wouldn't 9/21 be 6 months away from 3/21. 9/21 is in Virgo domain.

I'm a little confused. Is your opposite sign determined by whoever's 6 months from your individual date of birth, or is it simply 6 signs away, regardless of what day you were born?

I was born really late at night, so I'm definitely an Aries. But the Sun doesn't even go into Libra until (I think) 9/23.

The opposite of Aries is Libra. You can't go by the dates, these are opposites based on sign/house they rule.

Folks, stop the cusp stuff. Either you are an aries, or you are not. The only time you have a real carryover is when you are born at 29 degrees of a sign. Then the next sign will influence you.

Now I understand that you do not know the time for sure when you were born, and there are ways of rectifying a chart, but you need some experience to do this, and it is based on life events for you. Get as good an idea as you can from your mother or siblings. Many states have the info on your birth certificate. The hospital certificate always has that info.

Note that the degree on the ascendant changes for every 15 minutes. There are 30 degrees in a sign. This means your house placements are likewise affected.

And to answer your question, yes, it is always 6 signs away, that is the opposite (180 degree) sign.

Virgo is quincunx to Aries, 150 degrees, and can also be a difficult angle, but a minor angle, compared to an opposition which is a major angle.
