Concert Bootlegging Equipment Suggestions?!

Question: Concert Bootlegging Equipment Suggestions!?
I am a musician myself and love bootlegged concerts!. I put the quality aside from listening to other people's recordings!. Now, I want to get into it!. I just want to record local in-store events at a record store, do my own recordings of my band, and a big concert every so often!. Can someone, preferably with prior experience, suggest equipment for me to purchase!? I'm only in HS, so a set-up under $1,000 would be nice!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
get yourself a good handheld field recorder with a stereo X/Y mic on it!. Sony makes a KILLER one for about 500 dollars!. you can also look at edirol and zoom, but sony is the best!. I think there's a Marantz unit that costs about 800 dollars, but i'd STILL lean toward sony!.

the sound quality is sterling!. we've actually used it to mic drum overheads!.!.!.!.pretty impressive!. the displays on all of them are pretty cheesey, but what are you going to do!? one thing i'd look for is a stereo input for the situation where you can get the tape out from the board!. if you have that, you're set!.

Now, this is a small, hand-held deal!. it really sounds like you'd want to hook yourself up with a good recording laptop equipped with logic or protools!. i'd suggest a macbook, but we're crossing over into the >1000 range!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
