I first learned of her back in the 80s when the late artist Dave Stevens used her as his inspiration for Cliff Secord's girlfriend in the comic book "The Rocketeer"!. By then she was mostly out of the public eye and, later revealed, being treated for schizophrenia in a mental institution!.
By the time she was released in the early 90s, she was amazed at all the attention directed at her and the photos and short films she did back in the 50s!.
There was more Bettie product coming out frequently by this time; thankfully, she was starting to be reimbursed for this use of her image and rightfully so!. Being released from the mental hospital and only able to obtain social security, this source of income was welcome!.
I had a number of issues of the short-lived fanzine "The Bettie Pages" produced in the 90s (have since sold them)!. Still wish I had them though; maybe I'll go searching for them on eBay one of these days!. But I fear they along with other Bettie products will now go at a premium!.
