I'm a self taught guitarist, been playing for about 2 years now!.
If you have no books on guitar, the internet is your best friend!. Start by leaning 2 maybe 3 chords and practicing them!. (I recommend C & G)
Its hard at first, your fingers will hurt and the chord wont sound right, but keep picking up the guitar and trying, because it is the most beautiful skill to behold!.
also look at something called tabs, much more specific and easier to read!. www!.ultimate-guitar!.com is a good tabs website!.
A good song to learn is Wonderwall by Oasis!. :)

looking back i guess it is difficult at first but hopefully you'll be having so much fun learning songs you like that you won't notice!. i remember being in high school and spending like a whole weekend learning metallica songs and anything else that had guitars in it!.
also what really helped me out was not just listening to one kind of music!. you can learn things from country, jazz, classical, blues, metal!.!.!.they all use guitars but in different ways!. it's like seeing things from another point of view!.

The best would just be to concentrate on what you're trying to do!. You're just plucking the strings to make a noise!. I think a lot of people just starting out don't focus enough!. Just take your time, don't get frustrated, stay inspired, and imitate people better than you!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
Look online or in a music store for a chart that shows you where to place the fingers of your left hand on the strings to create basic chords!. Then just strum with your right hand!. You will begin to learn by ear once you know a few chords, and you can go from there!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
