I would suggest quite a lot of practice to start off with!. If you know the very basics of guitar, like how to hold it and such, I would suggest you go to this site: http://www!.billyrayfan!.com/countryguitar
There's a lot of great info on how to play beginner stuff!. Though it's kinda country-orientated, it's a great read!.
I would also recommend trying out stuff that's one step higher than the level you're at!. Do your scales, believe me they help finger technique!. But, don't push yourself too hard, or you'll get sick of the guitar!. Practice around an hour a day!.
My last tip is to jam with friends!. This is a surefire way to get a lot of practice while having fun!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
