Organizing near 1,600 DVD's, some in cases, some not...making an inventory l!

Question: Organizing near 1,600 DVD's, some in cases, some not!.!.!.making an inventory list!.!.!.HELP!!?
My husband has alot of DVD's!. Although we never finished counting them, the last time we tried to count them we ended up estimating that there is near 1,600 of them!.

A few hundred of them are in the original cases, however most of them are in stored in 5 CD cases similar to this:

Anywho, my husband has spent alot of time and money on his DVD "collection" before we got married so if it's important to him then it's important to me!.

I agreed that I would help to organize them!.!.!.I've started the organization process already (dividing them by category and title), however he wants an inventory list and I'm not quite sure how to go about writing one out!.!.!.

what computer program would be good for this!? What information should I include in this inventory list!?

ie, should I include info in the inventory list such as:
title
category (comedy/action!.!.!.)
main actors/stars
director
year released
rating

Thanks, I'm alittle overwhelmed!Www@Enter-QA@Com

This is a task for an Excel spreadsheet!. You can assign a column to the name, another to the genre, another to where it is stored in your storage system, and other columns as ideas occur to you!. The neat thing about this is that you can sort on a column, so if you want to see a western, sort on genre and then all the westerns will be together!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
