Question: Why is Death Note popular, period!?
well, to me, it's just another dark detective anime and I don't see anything too spectcular or compeling about it whenever I watch it!. yet, it's gained so much worldwide popularity, I can't help but wonder what's so great about it and what makes so many people love it so much, some to the point of being fanatic about it!.
I usually like animes with lighter, happier moods but still!.!.!.I'm willing to go out of my comfort zone into this darker, wildly popular anime and I'm trying my best to find the thing that's so extraordinary about it but still haven't found it!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

people love Death Note mostly because of the characters, specifically L!. i will throw my television out the window if you can name me one character who is like him!. i can't think of anyone who like him who will be loved just as much as he is despite the weirdness and the dead eyes!. then there are also Mello, Near, Light, Ryuk, Mikami!.!.!.these characters are at the zenith of all anime!. except Misa!.
to me the characters are just the icing!. i loved Death Note from the get-go!. the story is very compelling, and i find it really weird that you describe it as just another detective anime!. it's nothing like Detective Conan, i can tell you that!. it invovlves really smart thinking, i swear dumb people wouldn't be able to follow this show!. and it's very original too!. the idea is quite cheesy, a killer notebook!. but the plot that involves it and the people who come in contact with it are not!. oh yeah, the animation is spectacular, the soundtrack is superb!.!.!.none of those typical bug-eyes and green hair!.
lastly i love how it can open debates about good and evil!. this was not the intention of the creator (Ohba) but still, you can't help but ask yourself which side is real justice and if what we're doing in the real world is justice at all!. i love shows that can make me ask these questions!.
anyways, it's obvious to me that you haven't watched enough of the show to really appreciate it, or maybe you didn't watch from the start (a must)!. i suggest you go watch it properly and with an open mind, at least to see for yourself what all the buzz is about!. if ep1 doesn't get you, some of my friends were hooked by because of ep2 (my fave ep)!. if you don't like it, then no worries and go back to watching what you do!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Death Note is a world wide phenomenon because of its story line, characters (Fangirls mostly), and L and Mellow and Matt!.
