Answers:
Really!? You get pumped up with the Mexican Hat Dance!?

OK!.!.!. I'm guessing you're not that familiar with Mexican culture!. And, I'm not sure what your musical taste is!. But, if I were making a CD for you to give you a taste of Mexico, I would steer you toward:

-Some classic ranchera/mariachi music: Look up some greatest hits by Vicente Fernandez (a living icon of Mexico) and the late-great Lola Beltran; find music composed by romantic writer Augustin Lara; and Mexico's famous "trios" such as Los Panchos give you a taste of Mexico's golden era!.

-If you want to dance, find hits by Thalia ("Amor a la Mexicana" and "Piel Morena" are two of my faves)!. Both of these are a few years old, but they're still good - her older stuff in fact is better than her newer songs!. Timbiriche was a made-for-tv pop band but I liked their song "Esta Chido!." Paulina Rubio is also a big name, but I've never really found anything of hers that I like!. A one-hit-wonder band, Climax, came out with a song "Mesa que mas Aplauda" awhile ago that is still played a lot in clubs - it's a super-Mexican song that names a lot of Mexico City neighborhoods and uses slang terminology!. It's infectious!. I'd definitely put that on your list, and then when you recognize it in the clubs where you go, you'll fit in with the locals!.

-If you want some Chicano flavoring thrown in, check out the Spanish-language recordings by Los Lobos - the album La Pistola y el Corazon is awesome!. Linda Ronstadt (who is part Mexican) also did a decent recording of Mexican ranchera songs, Canciones de mi Padre, many years ago!.

-If you're looking to hear the most current in Mexican alt music, check out the art-rockers Cafe Tacuba or the more hard-sounding Molotov!. And for a more mainstream sound, get some greatest hits from Mana - they have a bunch of good, pop-rock songs that you'll hear all over the place when you're in Mexico!.

Mexico's musical history is very rich!. This is just a tiny sampling of songs that I would pull for you if I was making this CD!. Enjoy!Www@Enter-QA@Com
