If you just eat rye bread, your sex life will improve dramatically!."
The other man decides to follow this advice and finds a bakery nearby!.
He tells the clerk behind the counter that he wants all of the loaves of rye bread that they have in stock!.
The clerk then asks the man, "do you want whole loaves
or do you want us to slice them!?"
The man looks puzzled and asks the clerk, "what is the difference!?"

Vates
Color crayons and paper were spread over the glass tabletop of the private penthouse!. Located at the top of the largest tower in the city, it was not a surprise the man who lived within was wealthy, or that he had something to protect!. With a security system being the only of its kind; it would go off if someone even thought of entering the apartment, unaccompanied by the owner, or if their brain waves were not in the permitted access log!. In a city ruled by vampires a human was a rare treat for anyone who might come across them!.
Vendetta was not a safe city for anyone but vampires, humans were taken as slaves or pets by most!. Often fairies would be locked in air tight bottles, the lucky ones would die as soon as they were captured!. With warehouses full of rare imported life, blood banks were as sommen as supermarkets and clubs filled the city, it was a vampire’s dream!.
Here vampires were safe from slayers, humans and the sun!. Just as mortal city’s run, Vendetta had a governor and police force, laws and semi-strict rules they made only to please the neighboring mortal city that was coincidently the major headquarters of Slayers, Inc!.
A small hand held on to a yellow crayon as it moved across the sheet of paper, a child no older than four was lost within her mind!. Brown curls were carefully braided down her back; hazel eyes studied the paper as she hummed “Pop Goes the Weasel!.” Pink Barbie pajamas covered her body that sat propped up on three plush pillows!. The night was young and this youngster had just woken up!.
She was mortal, human even, but she was not a pet or slave!. Victor Sterling walked in to the living area looking to the child and smiled!. A vampire nearly six hundred years old with few joys in his life!. Yet one small child never failed to bring a smile to his cold dead lips and warm his icy heart!. Dressed in an elegant black suit, the long, dark hair he owned was brushed and pulled back in a tie at the back of his neck!. Three steps more and he was at the girl’s side, one arm wrapping around her shoulders!.
“Good evening, Vates!.” he said softly and kissed the top of her head!. “What are you working on!?” His voice was not hard and cold as it normally was with speaking to others!. No something in the child bright out a softer side to of him!.
“Bob!.” she said smiling as she picked up a purple crayon and sribbled something of a flower in the corner of the page!.
“And who is Bob!?” he asked as he sat back on the couch behind him looking down to the drawing and studying the others that littered the tabletop and floor!.
“My friend,” Vates said smiling as she looked back to him, “Bob does not like his picture to be taken so I drew him!. This one is for you!.” She held up the page she had finished and held it out to him!.
“Thank you, dear!. Tell me where is Bob right now!?” He asked playing along with the childish game!. He had heard children often have imaginary friends!. For his child it was not at all that shocking as he could hardly let her alone with any other vampire children her age!.
“Over there,” The girl pointed to where the large TV stood, “he is playing hide and seek!. I told him I don’t want to play and was coloring but he started to play anyways!.” Turning to the TV she smiled, “I can see you Bob, come out now!.”
Laughing gently, he lifted her off the floor, setting her on the couch, picking up the stuffed rabbit that left behind on the floor and turned on the TV!. “Why don’t you watch “Bob the Builder” while I make breakfast!.”
“Okay!.” She said as she leaned over slightly to see the TV already hypnotized!. In the kitchen as he prepared her meal he grabbed a bag of blood from the fridge and studied it a long moment!. So easily this could be her blood!. All it would take was a simple missed placed hand, the slip of a fingernail and the warm liquid would drain from her young body!. The taste of a young child’s blood, oh it was sweeter than an undiagnosed diabetic and as bitter as a young wine!. With the flicker of the TV victor was brought back from his mind and turned to finish fixing her breakfast!.
“Here you go, dear!.” He smiled as she had moved to the table and he set the plate in front of her!. Standing back in the kitchen he allowed her to watch the TV tonight while she ate, normally he would sit and talk with her but tonight he had many other things on his mind!.

“Vates, sit still please!.” Victor said to the girl as he placed her in the booster seat in the back of the limo!. She was restless this night and he could not figure out why!. Currently she was dressed in a black velvet dress, a black ribbon in her hair and white nylons ending with black shoes!. Holding still only a moment she looked out the window holding the small rabbit close!.
Victor wondered if she could sense what was on his mind!. It had been weighing heavily on him the past few weeks!. He wondered if he chose to raise her further if it would damage her changes for a normal life or would she alright to be raised completely in a vampire’s world!. He wanted the best for the child, his child he had raised from the moment her mother died in his arms from another vampire’s attack!. He swore he would protect her forever and for always, but now he was questioning if it was in Vates best interest to withhold that promise!. He would have to make a decision by the end of the night!.

Inside the large building Victor held Vates in his arms as they rode up the elevator!. Resting her head on his shoulder he felt something was not right!. Her heart rate was up and he could hear it and something was bothering her still!. “Vates, are you alright!?” He asked her looking to her a moment before the doors opened!. The child only nodded her head holding on to the rabbit in her left right arm a little tighter, her left held on around his neck!.
His mind raced as it had been all night!. The child needed to be around others her own age… the imaginary friend thing was cute but he was starting to realize if he kept her cooped up forever all she would have were imaginary friends!. She was smart, smatter than most kids her age he was willing to bet, but even bringing her to work was beginning to get dangerous!. Victor could sense the eyes watching them as he walked down the hall to his office!.
“Vates, play over here alright!? I need to make a phone call!.” He set her down once in his large office in the corner that had another little desk for her!. Kissing the top of her head once more, he made sure she was settled before he walked over to his desk!.
Pulling out papers from a file he placed things in order, sitting down at the large flat screened computer!. Coming to life it immediately popped up with his e-mail alerts, all messages that would need to be attended to before the meeting that would start in two hours!. “Done, done, done…” Victor spoke softly to himself as he deleted messages, typed new ones and printed off papers!. All of the tasks were a welcome distraction from his current issues with Vates!.
He loved the girl, anyone could see that, as he was so gentle with her while Victor himself was not a gentle person!. The reputation of being one of the bloodiest vampires in all history, a murder and force to be reckoned with seemed to be dulling!. Many did not quite know what to do with the child; they knew the role of father figure could not last forever!. Victor himself even realized this… and with in the brief moment of realization his diction was made!.

The night grew older, soon the daylight would rule once more and the city would drop into dead sleep!. Victor opened the door to the penthouse and moved through the routine of getting Vates tucked into bed!. Kissing her cheek he smiled, “I love you, sweet girl!.” He whispered to the already half-asleep Vates!.
Walking from the room he pulled the door closed and moved to his den!. Looking through his address book for a moment he found the number of an adoption agency he had been saving and dialed!. “Yes, hello, I am calling to see if there are any good homes available for a four year old child!.”
