im reading a book on halocaust survivors and in one of the storys it says these 3 boys all around the age of 14 were caught by nazi's and they were running away while the nazi's were shooting , they snuck into someones cellar and in the morning one of the guyz hair was white!?

It does happen because of extreme stress and worry!.
It happened to my brother at the age of 28!. He was kick-starting his motorcycle, when he experienced a sharp pain in his knee!. He went right away to the doctor, for it was very painful!. Come to find out he had cancer underneath his knee-cap, and he got an operation that very night!. (This is the German health-care system, in the US this process, would have been carried on for weeks) Anyhow, I went to see him the next morning and both sides of his hair had turn snow white!. No, hair cannot turn white overnight!. Hair is basically dead and the color is homogenous throughout the hair shaft!.
