Whats the difference between a fender strat and a telecaster? And how much shoul!

Question: Whats the difference between a fender strat and a telecaster!? And how much should you pay for a fender!?
Answers:
Most guitarists will know the main differences between Strats and Teles already, so I'm guessing (!?) that you haven't been playing for long!. If that is the case, there really isn't much point in spending a couple of grand on a super-dooper guitar, when you can get a perfectly satisfactory instrument for a fraction of the price!.
Ok, main differences, as far as I know, are firstly the shape, and secondly the sound or tone!. You can see the difference in shape (by looking at a picture!), but the difference in sound is a bit more complex!. Both models have super tonal qualities; the Strat normally has 3 single-coil pickups, whilst the Tele has 2, and the Strat has a 5-way pickup selector switch, whilst the Tele's is 3-way!. That, in itself, would suggest that the Strat has a wider range of tones than the Tele, and in the hands of a top-class player it probably has; however, the top-class player will make a standard Tele sound better than any Strat played by a less-accomplished musician!. In general terms, a Tele is often viewed more as a trebly-sounding "country-style" guitar, whilst the Strat is thought to have more of a mellow "blues" tone, but I've never thought that is really accurate; I think it generally comes down to personal choice!. I've always associated Eric Clapton with Strats since Derek and the Dominoes, but in his Cream days it was usually Gibson SGs or 335s!. Albert Lee seems to swear by Teles, as does Keith Richards!.
A possibly-relevant point for you, is that Telecasters don't normally have a tremelo arm, so if Hank is a hero, your decision is made!.
Ok, let's turn to the question of prices!. As with everything else, you'll generally get what you are prepared to pay for , in terms of quality!. Having said that, start by looking at the cheapest "Fenders" ie the Squier Affinity range!. They will be the cheapest option, and do represent very good value for money!. Next up is the Standard Squier range; again, very good value for money!. Then you move up to "genuine" Fenders, ie the ones assembled in Mexico, and then to the American Fenders (the real thing!?)!. More expensive still are the "signature-ranges"!.
So, how much should you pay!? That depends entirely on the size of your wallet, but bear this in mind: if you are in your first couple of years as a guitarist, a decent session-player, playing the lowest Squier Affinity Series, will sound loads better than anything you can do on the most expensive guitar in the world!. In my experience, any Squier or Fender will be a nice guitar to hold in your hands, and to play!. The more knowledgeable guitarists will tell you that you can't buy a ready-playable guitar, that you have to set it up to your special needs!.!.!.!.!.!.!.maybe they're right!? I know that I like to buy my guitars locally from Ebay, or similar, (as long as I can have a look first), and then usually restring them when I get them home!. Buying secondhand will save loads of money, and will mean that you can get a better-quality instrument (for your money) than if you're buying new!. In London, buying locally from Ebay, I would expect to pay about £55 - £70 for a Squier Affinity, about £100 to £120 for a Standard Squier, but a Mexican Fender will fetch upwards of £180 - £250, and I don't look at anything more expensive than that!.
If you're buying from Ebay, do examine the guitar first, and take a knowledgeable friend if you can!.
Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com
