Im going to get a guitar...?!

Question: My brother's friend is gonna pass by pretty soon (like in a couple of hours) and sell me his guitar, he's gonna get new strings and picks and such. Its a Fender Acoustic guitar.

So my question is, when I first get it, what should I do first? And what things should I check to see if its in good condition? (Besides just looking at it to see scratches)

He said its in good condition, because he barely used it, and I believe him, I saw pictures.

Also, where can I get some good beginner guitar lessons?

The others have given great advice. I would get an easy to learn book Like Mel Bey Easy Guitar that has a disc with it and a guitar tuner . You need to learn how to tune the guitar. The easy book will teach you easy chords and notes and the disc will show what it sounds like. Always tune the guitar before every play session. play for 15 to twenty min. everyday no more when you first start out or you will over load your self and get frustrated. But do play everyday , make it a habit to play then it becomes natural to play and you'll miss it if you don't play. Make sure everyone knows this is important to you and not to disrupt you during this time . You will be surprised by how fast you will learn .Good luck .

If you have a good guitar store in your town ask there.

Your community college's music department might also help you find good guitar teachers.

Your high school music teacher might also help you find a teacher as well.

Ypu can go to 8notes.com

hold it so you look straight down the neck.. It should be straight no curves.the strings should be fairly close to the frets. no cracks in the body. A slight scratch won't hurt. guitar shops usually can arrange lessons,or a friend who plays. I just bought a few books & learned on my own.

first check that the strings are correctly that the strings r placed correctly then check it wheather it is well tuned..then just get started from-------www.guitartricks.com
