Why do some songs nobody bought at the time end up as all time classics?!

Question: There were some absolutely fantastic songs that nobody really went for at the time. Now they are classics.

Answers: There were some absolutely fantastic songs that nobody really went for at the time. Now they are classics.

A love song for example, is probably going to be too deep and soppy for people to want to listen to all the time - therefore it doesn't sell very well.

Although - everytime someone gets married and they look for a romantic song, they might pick it, and therefore romance is built up around the song and it is associated with special events for many people and therefore it becomes a classic.

maybe they are brilliant songs but ahead of their time - so at the time they were completely unappreciated

Because people don't realise until too late dear heart.

Because a song being good and being popular are two very different things! Bob the Builder, Mr Blobby etc have got to number one in the charts but they aren't good records!

How do you know that no one bought them at the time?
I think what you mean is they didn't feature in the top 20. That means nothing other than they weren't being played on radio.

I used to hate the Kinks song "Lola" Many, many years later I actually listened to it and took in the lyrics. Now I love it! Strange!.
