You should tell your parents to shut the hell up, and to stop being so damn ignorant. If they don't want you to be happy they're sh*t parents anyway. My parents were exactly the same, no musical experience but wanted me to play the piano because they thought that it would be a better career choice. Let me tell ya, it's just as hard to live off gigs as a decent piano player as it is to live off being a decent trombone player. They told me that 'no one ever became famous playing the trombone' because they were exactly like your parents. Ignorant and narrow minded. Now, I'm one of the best trombone players in my city. I get paid to play and I still love it like I did on day one, if not more. By the way, my parents hardly went to any of my concerts and they still don't. Who gives a crap. Tell them exactly what I told mine - 'I have no respect for you and I'll never be like you. No parent should stop their child doing what they love'. They should shut up a bit after that.

Is the trombone rusty? LOL

Maybe you should talk to your parents in a responsible, respectful manner and tell them how you feel. If that doesn't work, you could always get some kind of side job and try to raise money to get a new trombone. Slow and steady, but worth it. Have you ever thougt that maybe they can't really afford trombone lessons and an expensive new trombone? Maybe you could order from a store not really known for musical instruments, like walmart.com. You could also just pacify them and learn the piano for now. But if you really want to continue with the trombone, why don't you just sign up for your high school's band? That way you can still play the trombone....for free.=)
