Acctually I was asking a similar question the other day. I think lots of people are spending too much time on social networks and yes you have hit the hail on the head. It is a waste of time!
If you ask me I would compare them to cigarettes, this may seem a bit too far fecthed but these social networks are addictive and the outcome isn't good, people are socialising less in terms of meeting up! They think its more easier to socialise on these networks when all it is, is just a silly game!
I used to have bebo and nearly everyone used to compete so much with having a high number of profile views. Afters working so hard on boosting their profile views I used to sit back and ask the question. WHY?
What does it mean to have a high number of profile visits?
Does it prove their popular?
No! It just proves their sad becasue they spend an awful lot of time trying to make a silly number bigger! :D
Sorry for going off the topic a little but its just one of the reasons why so many people enjoy being on social networks, qutie a lot has changed since I deleted my account and it looks like its much more easier than ever to become addicted becasue off trying eachothers quizes and personality ranks and viewing your friends etc.!
It is a waste of time, just like this is. ;) It's like daydreaming, watching TV, or anything else people do to rest and relax.
Finally, someone agrees with me. There's so many people who are obsessed with it. It annoys me.
it is a waste of time - you are so right! i used to have bebo and a myspace and i just came to my senses recently. what was really bugging me was how impersonal it was becoming, people dont phone and talk anymore, they think by sending a message on one of these sites is enough to be a good friend, nah!
i do like myspace for having a nosey for new music, and it can be good to get in contact with old friends but if they have my number they can just get in touch that way
people like these websites alot, just like me. though im not obsessed with it. i login usually once or twice a week. the reason people like this is because they help people communicate and talk on the internet. in some cases, it is a waste, but people enjoy it alot for that reason
I agree with you, they are a waste of time and completely pointless. If you wanted to keep in contact with all your so called friends surely you would have and it doesn't take a website to make you do it
