Don't get confused by the other two answers. Although they are correct with the flat/sharp part of your Q the terminology is incorrect. There is no such thing as a half or whole note. If a note is half it would mean your out of tune. A note is a note. However,,, there are steps; half steps and whole steps. Each key, white and black, is a half step, every other key is a whole step. There are 12 half steps in one octave, which is a chromatic scale... so heres the chromatic scale from C .... #=sharp b=flat

C
C# or Db
D
D# or Eb
E
F
F# or Gb
G
G# or Ab
A
A# or Bb
B
C

flat is left black key sharp is right so like csharp and d flat are the same...get it? its a half note up or down instead of a whole note

B flat is the black key to the left of the "B" key. There really isn't a B-sharp key, but the "C" key (the white one to the right of "B", would be considered B-Sharp.

Sharps & flats are considered to be half-notes higher or lower than the current note.

For example: D-flat is also C-sharp. F-sharp is also G-flat. Same exact notes.
