I read an article saying that these types of programmes and the 'cult of celebrity' take away from children the understanding that effort equals success, making them less likely to try and make more of their lives.
On another point its is easy money for people like Lloyd-Webber who must realise that it increases box office interest when it does hit the west End, people feel they know the 'star' and want to go to see a performance.
I really miss good entertaining inventive television. I usually only watch DVD's now, not much on tv is that worth watching.
