Are reality talent shows the death of music?!

Question: There is no disputing that most of these shows get amazing amounts of viewers and that the winners get incredible fast-paced fame.
But is it what the industry needs? I personally want to know my artist have tried their hardest to break the scene, to get a record label and start touring. I want to know that my band or artist have had ups and downs, that they haven't just had it handed to them on a silver platter.

One example of this is a British show called 'T-mobile act unsigned'. It featured unsigned bands playing live to try and get a record deal and a single release. The winning band, Envy and other sins, obviously left their shame at the door as they begged the judges (even resorting to crying infront of the nation) to be featured in the next round.

But thats just my opinion.
So, what do you think?

it used to be like this...

if you were good enuff, you got to make a record...if it was any good, it got played on the radio...if it became a hit, THEN you got to appear on a television show...

the whole 'talent' show thing showcases nuttin' but a bunch of karaoke singers...just look at how many of 'em get dropped by their labels for low (or no) sales...

and also...how many of these 'talents' can even begin to write their own material?...

For me it is more of the "whiny crooners" touted as "Rock Artists!"

and

Pre-packaged; pre-pubesant girls decked out like thirty-year-old hookers because they look hot.

If Aretha Franklin, Bette Midler, Janis Joplin, Barry White, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and so on...where to enter the music scene today (as they looked in the day)..NO ONE would record them! They are all too fat and or ugly.

We would have missed out on so many of the true artists!!

We need to start LISTENING and stop looking at music.

Cookie cutter music sucks! Seek out those who care about music not money!
