right as an ex supermarket worker and usually a friend to the earth this time im gonna have to side with my wallet so m&s say they are gonna become eco warriors and charge me 5p a bag... how unreal is this?? well workin in a supermarket i know that the prices of the products are higher to enable them to give you free carriers so in theory they aren't free they never where so crafty marks and sparks are making you pay twice for them they see us as being suckers!!! why dont they do what other places do and give paper bags instead!! i'm gonna boycott marksys! how are we suppose to carry our scoff home?? i say to takle enviromental issues we should get rid of the royals planes and private trains ect... get big cars off the roads.. but how does our government and companies takle the problem.... hmmm let me think... higher taxes!! its all rollocks!

I think they really mean that fish are dying because they are putting too much shopping in the plastic bags and exhausting themselves from the weight.

xx

Are you 12, didn't you read any of the articles about what it does to our environment?? silly question, you need to research your questions better!!

When I were a lad, we used to take plastic bags with us when we went shopping - and if we needed new ones we paid 2p for each of them. This meant that the bag was re-used until it was well and truly dead.

Now, 75% of the bags I bring back from M&S and Tesco have to go straight in the bin because they are so flimsy that they barely make it home (and when I say home I mean the 20 yards from the shop to the car park and the 20 feet from the car to the house).

I'd have no problem paying even 50p for a carrier bag, provided it was a good value for money bag that I could reuse.

I saw some pictures in a news paper yesterday of different animals that got trapped in plastic bags. They showed plastic bags that had been found in a Whales stomach, Plastic bags that had got tangled around birds, got tangled round an otter and their was a bag stuck over some poor animals face. They had all been rescued. The alternative is just bring your own bag and keep using the same bag.

Believe me, I am the first to down the tree hugging, muesili eating, veggie burger eco warriers with their endless bleating on about driving big cars and taking planes but on this occasion, I think that the possible ban on plastic bags would be good. Only because the fact is that they do kill fish and other animals. Sadly, animals and fish haven't evolved enough to be able to recognise a tesco plastic bag when they see one.

Plastic bags are killing wildlife. Your view is childish and selfish. If t here were no plastic bags we would all use other bags. In the USA you get the choice of a plastic bag or a paper bag - and their paper bags are quite substantial.

Here in the States the bags are everywhere, blowing up and down the streets, stuck in trees, and I was throwing out loads of them every week because there were too many for me to reuse. Every little item came with a huge plastic bag. The stores here have started selling the reuseable ones, and I bought some, have virtually put an end to the annoying plastic ones in my home. I remember my grandmother carrying mesh shopping bags with her when I shopped with her as a child. Makes so much more sense.
