Advice for a beginner guitar player?!

Question: I just wanted some advice because I have played guitar hero and realized how pointless that game was and want to learn how to play the real thing. I realize the real guitar is harder that guitar hero so I wanted some advice:

1. What type of guitar should I get
And
2. Any general tips

to start off only get a cheap electric (usually fender strat copy) or acoustic. You don't need an expensive one to start with.

Also, don't expect guitar hero to be anythin like real guitar. it may take a while to get used to moving your fingers about when making chords and stuff, don't give up. It takes a lot of perserverance when you first start off. you'll get there.
Also don't get too ambitious when you first start. Get some simple tabs (guitar tablature, you may already kno about these, its how yo read music for a guitar) off of the internet. Such as 'smells like teen spirit' or somethin.
Get used to the basic chords from the beginning like A, G, D and stuff. Also have a go at finding songs using single string stuff. When i first started i used to play 'travis - sing' for the chords and i found 'white stripes - seven nation army' quite easily when messing about with the single string.

Keep it up, and good luck =D.

BTW, don't go thinking that yo need classes, it can be expensive. You can learn a lot to start with off of the internet. Think about classes when you get better and more advanced. Its all about perserverance at the beginning

just go to the music store and they'll help you out

and start w/playing chords :)

get one that stays in tune and is easy to finger. try out as many as possible. start with an acoustic.

dont go buying a really expensive guitar straight away any guitar will do really , obviously not a broken 1 and learn some chords they are easy to learn and important in guitar playing and get some tabs

I am learning guitar right now. I reccomend classes and the guitar I reccomend is a nylon string because they are softer on the fingers.(ibanez)

Depends on what kind of guitar music you like. If you like rock or pop, get an electric guitar. If you like folk stuff, buy an accoustic.
Remember, you will need an amplifier if you get an electric guitar. A 10 Watt amp will be enough to learn on.
When you have your guitar, go to http://www.youtube.com and search for Justin Sandercoe - complete lesson course on there!

Yea man you should try to get a cheap guitar like $100-$150 since your new and all. You want to get an electric guitar because Acoustics are boring and hard to play cuz there so fat. Gibson guitars are really good so try to look for a cheap one.

After you get a guitar I would suggest going to UltimateGuitar.com because you can find any tab you want and reading tabs is pretty easy. There's forums and everything that can help you out. I hope this helped GL.

It all depends on the type of music you want to play. Rock, alternative, punk, or any other type like that requires an electric guitar(which requires an amp, which requires more money and space to store it). But if you want to write songs and make melodies, or if you are into blue grass or country, acoustic guitars are a very nice choice.
I'm getting an acoustic guitar soon because I want to learn how to play. Plus I write songs as a hobby. Anyway, I don't know too much about guitars, but I found a site that helped me a lot....here it is:
