Need an honest opinion please!!?!

Question: i'm 15 and i really like to sing, i'm not saying that i'm amazing. but i also play the guitar and piano and have written a bunch of songs. if i wanted to play at like local bars or little shows around town, how would i do this? do i call the place? i'm just considering it and what are the chances that they will let me play?

also, am i allowed to do covers of songs? or can i only play my own stuff?

and if i can't get into bars and stuff, should i just wait til im older? or how else can i get myself out there?

i would try to watch for venues that are suitable for your age. the suggestion of local events in your area is good, plus you could check out juice bars or coffee houses. lots of times they host live music also. once at the grand opening of a local mall they had different musicians scattered thoughout playing. you could look for fun fairs or open houses of businesses. of course you should also look for local open mic nights because they would definitely let you play and that gives you experience and exposure. i don't know what the rules are on covers, but i would think as long as you are not playing for money you don't have to have rights to the songs. just think of a school talent show. i doubt any of them have gotten expressed written permission from the artists to perform their music.

Well, I have friends that are in this situation. See if you can find places and events that are put on my the city where you live. They usually will let you. Also, call around. It never hurts to ask!

look in the news paper to see if there are any places looking for singers. it also wouldn't hurt to get a agent!

Go for it. Lots of my friends play at local bars on the weekends. You just have to call up and ask. You can play covers or your own stuff. It's really good to mix it up and play both! Show your song writing skills, while also keeping people's attention by playing covers of songs people will recognize!

Good luck with it ?

How about fairs and carnivals? You could stroll around with your guitar on, and find a spot to sing. Perhaps near a concession stand, where people will be sitting anyways to have their snacks. In my state, we had an amusement park that had a stage that would have live entertainment from local bands. Some of them went on to be household names in that town. You get some experience and exposure. Who knows, you might get discovered.
