I am looking to buy an acoustic guitar. a) Any recommendations for a beginner?!

Question: b) Is an acoustic a good choice for a beginner?

A friend told me to learn on an acoustic guitar because it's harder than an electric to play, so when I do go to play the electric guitar it'll be that much more easy. Is this the case?

Thank you!

So glad to hear you've decided to play! I reccomend getting an acoustic for the same reason your friend said and more. Now don't misunderstand the words "harder to play"...that's generalizing. What really occurs is the strings are a little thicker and the neck is usually a little wider. Because of this the strings will be a little harder to push down. This will cause you to gain valuable callouses on your finger tips and strength! Then when you are ready for an electric guitar you will have the callouoses and strenght for bends and pulls and such. Other advantages to the acoustic is you can take it with you anywhere. On vacation, to a friends, outdoors or from room to room easily without the worry of an amp, cords or electricity. Most likely you will keep the acoustic even if you get an electric. Acoustics are just real handy to have around even if your primary guitar is an electric. So get a nice acoustic. Spend at least $200.00. If you can afford more do it. There's no need to spend more than $400.00 on a first guitar. If you can find a friend who plays who can help you pick one out (maybe they can play a few and see which one feels best) then great! Good luck and Happy Pickin' http://www.GuitarGoGo.com

Get a half decent cheap accoustic for about 70-80 pounds (sorry don't know how many dollars that is if you're not British). Yamaha ones are pretty good. Get one with steel strings as nylon ones are for playing classical tunes, and it sounds like you want to play rock.

Don't spend loads of cash on an expensive elec guitar and amp yet. Make sure you've got the aptitute for the instrument first and upgrade to electric once you start to get good.

One that feels comfortable.. and one you fall for and what to learn! Go for acoustic.. great great sound!
