What makes random songs pop into your head?!

It really depends... Various things can trigger a memory, from a piece of a song lyric, to something you might associate with the song, etc. Could also just be random.
a sight, a smell or an object reminded your sub conscience of a memory that triggered the song.
What were you doing right before you started singing/humming the song? Think back it'll come to you why you started singing that song.
What I'd like to know is how to get the darn song out of your head once it gets in there.
Often it's because I've heard a word or phrase from the lyrics. Did someone say something other than the xmas words in the lyrics?
I'm a musician so I have other things that pop songs into my head. It's especially annoying when I'm trying to write something and what I play on my guitar winds up putting a known song into my head. All kinds of sounds can trigger it.
our brain makes them pop into our head. Our mind never focuses on just one thing. You might think it does, but it doesn't. You could be watching tv and it seems like you're really focusing on it and then all of a sudden you think something like I wonder what I should buy my mom for her birthday, even though the tv show you're watching has nothing to do with a birthday
You probably smelled or saw or maybe even thought of something that reminded u of it!! the weird thing is it poped into my head today the song jingle bells i was just sitting down and all a sudden i was singing " jingle bells jingle bells jingle all the way" it was tottaly weird but in a way it is normal!!
hearing words that are part of the lyrics.. like if i heard "who he think he is" i'd sart singing beyonce.. lol just an example :)
