How can i make my bass drum louder??!

Question: I reasantly bought a new drumkit and ive searched for a way to make the bass drum louder. However, over the hi-hat and snare its still not very distinctive. Is there a way i can make it as loud as possible e.g. tuning it differently, more/less padding ect. (preferabley without having to buy any more equipment)

Buy a Drum Key. Turn all the tension rods down until the head is loose then tighten the tension rods with your fingers. Put the drum under a light with the batter head (one that beater hits off of) facing up to the light. Apply pressure to the head with the palm of your hand and you should see wrinkles around the skin. Turn each tension rod up a quater turn until the wrinkles dissapear. After that, go up another quarter turn at each tension rod.
Do the same for the reso head (the one facing away from the kit).
That should get you the lowest, loudest thump with tuning.

Also put a pillow inside the drum for dampening - just a pillow. Good drum heads help aswell if you have the spare money. I recommend an Evans EMAD Batter with an Evans EQ3, EQ4 or Emad resonant head.

As for technique. Try playing with your heel in the air and pressing down with the ball of your foot halfway down the pedalboard of the bass pedal. Almost like stamping but within reason that your not going to break the thing.

Hope this helps!

well get the key and try tightening it or just play louder. try asking the coustemer service for help

turn the volume up:]

i laid a pillow in my bass drum and then tightened it so it doesn't rumble

hit it harder?

Yeah, hit it harder or hit the snare & high hat less hard. Other than that, get a small PA system and mic the bass drum (you'd have to do that live with a band anyway). In terms of tuning, continue to tune it correctly/evenly, making it looser/tighter than normal isn't going to make it louder, it will only cause tonal problems.
