so basically, all the major television stations (NBC, ABC, FOX) have writers that make money per episode.
now though, all these stations are putting all of the episodes online as well. a lot of people watch these, but the writers don't get paid.
so they're angry about it, and are trying to re-negotiate their contract.
I am sure there is more than one reason for their strike, but the biggest sticking point is that they want to get paid when we download TV programs, movies, etc from the Internet. Each time we download something a particular writer has written, they do not get paid for that download. That's what they want: to be paid when we download something they wrote.
