Yes =] ask the people at the place that you buy them which gauge you should get. That really affects your playing. Go to guitar center, they are amazing there.

nylon is easier to pay on but its usually for classical style guitars and has a much lower tensel strength than steel which is usually on drednaught style.
if you have steel strings then its probably a drednaught and nylon will not be as loud.

this really would not work mostly because nylon strings lack an anchor on the end of the string to secure it in the bridge. nylon strings are tied to the bridge, therefore they lack the anchor that steel strings have. also, nylon strings are a little fatter so they might not settle into the nut properly.
