OLDER PEOPLE ! pre 1990, I must be a relic then, I think that the finest music spanned 30 yrs. 40's, 50's, and 60's.
I am one of the "older people" you are referring to, I happen to like both. Some music now sucks, but some is pretty good. I do prefer my "old" music though, those people had more talent.

i was born '93 and personally i think that all 90s music was great. 70s and 80s are good too but when you listen to 90s music you can see where bands nowadays get their ideas for all kinds of music, and you can hear some early electro
The sixties were the best ever, you lived in those day's.
I would say pre 2002. There are some good bands out there now but a lot of them are boring and cr&p. Even old bands that are still releasing records have gone down hill like the chili peppers.
Definitely pre 1980 - Free, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Beach Boys and all the soul giants like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight and the Pips. However, I do like the Arctic Monkeys and Michael Buble.

I've been a club DJ for the past 12 years. I would say it really depends on your taste and preference. There isn't a definite answer.

Pre 1990, of course (and the lyrics were generally better too). Modern music (now) is often inspired by older/timeless music.
Music pre-1990 had, for the most part, personality. Now it's just corporate bollocks which drains artists of style and apparently talent, even if the artist had character before (the Red Hot Chili Peppers are a good example here). It's all faceless crap, a soul-destroying machine which is powered by soul-destroying machines (human and otherwise). I am so BORED with current music, is it any wonder that I spend my time listening to tunes from the past?
i like some of the music today but some on now. Music is what it is today because of the stuff that was made in the past. there was the beatles, (voted to be the best band ever in the 60's and 70's... and they still are i believe) led zeppelin, etc. the old rock bands ya know?
If ya didnt notice the older peoples music is still around and even being remade, so it has endured time.
The older stuff is better in my opinion although there is some good music around now. In most of the older stuff the groups actually played their instruments and the concept of boy bands and girl bands was almost unheard of. Anyway how can a group singing (or miming!) be called a band when they don't play instruments - they should be called choirs
The sad fact is that nobody will make an original track after 2020 Everything you here today comes from something done before it.Greed overtook talent at an alarming rate mid to late 70's and it's been down hill since.The music of most peoples lives pre to mid teens is the best for them but as you get older you learn to appreciate Talent far more than noise and start looking at great artists.
