When you say, 'To become a better drummer', I assume you are already a drummer. The only question is, how good, that's all. Playing beat and rhythm are by far the easiest. A bit of fill-in, licks and grooves is nothing exciting.

Good drummers always have good foot techniques. A lot of people are mistaken that hand techniques are the most important. No! Hand technique is only fun to look at whereas your hand movement is entirely controlled by your foot. It gives you the right tempo and the right leading beat. If you have good foot techniques, good tempo on your foot, your hand techniques would come naturally.

First, work on your syncopation, with your foot, that is. Next, work on the 4 on 6, 3 on 5, 4 on 5, 3 on 7 and 4 on 7.

One more sugestion, how about try to play a triplet with your foot?

Once you are able to cope with the above, an 8-minute drum solo is only a piece of cake, no sweat.

practice or lessons

You have to practice as hard as you can.

Practice Practice Practice...study the great drummers, learn from their techniques, don't copy them but use them to help develop your own style.

First become a drummer, then get better.

practice

practice alot, start with slow **** work your way upt to fast ****, listen to a drum beat you like learn it then once you have an idea how to play it make your own thing from what you learned

like anything else, commitment and practice.

practice makes progress, you could talk to another more advanced drummer and get some tips from them, except everybody is different and different practice techniques work for everyone.

i dont have the place to give you advice but this is what i think. In order to have serious drum skills you gatta learn by professionals and then get good at what others tell you to do. after you get everything basic pretty much mastered, you can make it your own and mix the basics with your own creativity. and that takes a lot of practice and dedication. i play percussion and im far from good but i love it. I trhink thats another huge part of it. you have to love it. and it takes years to get that good. just be pacient and stay persistant and before you know it youll be pretty damn good.

I'm a drummer and I recommend listening to alot of different music, pay particular attention to the beat and rhythms. Also, you can practice just using your hands(no drumsticks) and beat on your lap. If you find another drummer that you can learn from and take lessons from----------------then practice, practice, practice. I drove everyone crazy in my house for awhile, but hang in there. Don't give up on your dreams.
