You need to use a BASS AMP...everybody always asks "can I play my bass through a guitar amp" I never advise this because people don't realize how hard bass is on the delicate parts of a guitar amp. Just because you can get sound out of it, doesn't mean it's a good idea. Also, for maximum signal clarity, buy intrument cables rated for bass. And don't be the dude that plays bass through a guitar amp.

the cables are interchangable. The amps can be interchangeable but the bass sound just doesn't compare. You can easily blow a guitar amp with a bass if you play loudly

For bass guitar, you need a bass amp. reason ? Because the input stages are more heavy-duty. There is a chance that you can blow out the imput stages on a regular guitar amp, and you will definately blow out the speakers. However, a local music store near me takes the guitar speakers out of guitar amps, and replaces them with " bass" speakers, for some bassists who are looking for a small lightweight, bass amp. They tell me that the Fender amps used to do this hold up and do not blow-out. However, I think that it would be better to buy a regular bass amp. If U R gonna play with a band with a drummer, please keep the following in mind------ you will need an amp around 175-to 200 watts to be able to hear the bass over the drums and guitar amps .
P.s. - cables are all the same ( the ones from guitar output to amp imput). These are " shielded" cables Some amp companies recommend heavier cables from ''amp" output to " Speaker" imput ( if you are talking about a separate brain, not combo)( these are " unshielded" ). Ask the guy at the music store . He'll explain .
cables are cables. As for the amp, you can play a guitar amp bt the speakers frequency does not allow it to produce low bass notes. But it will play.
