The more simple the more catchy. People won't sing over and over a very complex song they find it hard to remember.
Many songs appear easy once they have been written. Any one who can play a bit of guitar can play a great number of pop songs. Beatle tunes included. Any trained musician can play most any chart thrown his or her way. However, I challenge anyone to sit down and write these "easy" songs themselves. And then perform them with the same passion, energy and great musicianship that these amazing artists did. Can you write a few bars of 3/4 time into a 4/4 song, such as in We can work it out? McCartney did. You didn't. Besides, if it was so easy, everyone would be writing their own catalogue of hit songs! Its not always about playing, it's also about creating. Your challenge is to learn how to not just hear, but to really listen. You will be deeply rewarded.
