Perform.

That will hone your skills, help you learn how to be a better musician. If you love to play, it's a win-win situation. Getting to know other musicians in your area is a good way to spread the word about yourself, too.

Record.

You've got to have a product to sell.... so on top of being able to perform, record a demo, get some demo discs. Now you have something you can offer people, something that might be able to circulate and maybe make its way to that elusive record company exec.

Often-times, they look for people who can draw a crowd. If you can draw a crowd, that's money in the bank for them. Think of it this way - would you want to risk your money on someone who you know nothing about, or someone who can bring a guaranteed 100+ people to every show they have?

That's what we're looking at right now. We're trying to figure out how to get to that point, because that's what these guys seem to want, at least in our neck of the woods (Seattle metropolitan area).

Free tip: Never ever lie about how many people you can bring to a gig. Even if its zero, be honest. Bar owners remember bands who lie, and word spreads fast. You will never play twice in the same place if you lie about how many people you can bring in the door.

Saul

keep practicing and make a demo

A lot of musicians are using youtube to get exposure.

The best way is to instead of search for the record labels, let them search for you, maybe perform in a few spots...

Try to get a gig?
What type of musician? Just a vocalist or playing an instrument?

You need to work hard and practice.

make a demo.. play at a school Idk

Go on American Idol

YOUTUBE!!!!!
Also, look for people who have made it - Esmee Denters is an example. Promote yourself as much as possible. Research on the web for all the competitions, no matter how small, in your area - it will give you stage experience, and possible exposure.

Just keep pushing yourself. With determination you'll make it.

put your music on youtube & myspace.

Start playing at local coffeeshops or bookstores, like Starbucks, Borders... you get the idea. If you seem to get a positive reaction from the audience, make a demo CD and sell them (about 5 bucks). That way, if someone is interested in you they can have a CD, and something that they can show their boss, etc.

Good luck!

PS... you could always try MySpace...

well you should probably play an instrument.
or lots of them, but you must be extremely good at each and every one

my guitar teacher has a small recording label so that if/when i want to i can try that way.
dont go too big too fast. it will take you years and years, and you probably will not get any offers for a while and if you do they will be to very small labels.
get a big fan base, so that you get talked about and the right people will come to see you and get you signed.

well what do you play?
are you in a band because it's easier for bands?

do heaps of gigs
do some busking, alot of people get noticed through busking

good luck

do LOTS of karaoke

1.make demos and send them to record labels
2.make a myspace music and add your friends and family and tell there friends and family to add you and post your music on there page
3.perform at karoke contest local festivals
4.make a youtube video and get people to watch you sing
5. get a free agent to get booking here is a web site
sag.com or for$9 month backstage.com

Practice hard. Have concerts at the talent show or some local event. The more people you play for the more your popularity goes up. If you have what it takes some guy will give you a record deal. Hope to see you on MTV. Good Luck
