Just start playing. Try to make sounds on the guitar. Some people play by ear, that is, they hear something and then play it. Some play by music - they need the sheet music or tabs in front of them to play.
First, get a chord book and learn how to play C, F, G, A, E, D. Play them until they sound like real chords, not muffled or buzzing. Learn more chords and play any melodies you can. You have to start in order to find out how you learn best. You may need to listen to music and try to emulate it or it may be easier for you to follow the tabs to learn songs. But you have to start to find out. When your fingertips begin to callous, then you can have a better idea of what it will take to get better.
