Is it illegal to download music files if you already own the album?!

Question: If I have an album on LP AND cassette and I just want an MP3 version, why is that so bad? The record company already got my money twice.

That's called trying to rationalize your act of theft and no, it isn't OK. It's like asking can I legally shoplift a CD of this movie because I went to see it in the theater a few months ago so they've already gotten my money once.

Yes, this is called stealing.

Technically yes, but you wont have charges pressed against you. Its justifyable by my book.

It is not illegal to make a back-up copy of your music for personal use, so it would be acceptable that you have an "extra" digital copy.

yes because you have to buy the music

technically...yes...

No, I think it's legal. You've already bought the rights to own the music.

thats life. you pay rights for every format, unless you use a file sharing programme-try limewire

you can get a free program for mp3 and do it yourself, no need to download. besides, you′ll be traced

well, it's not like you can get arrested from downloading music from the internet~~ but if you really love the band --- than you have to buy one of their original album, which shows your respect of the band you loved...

Yes. It sounds stupid, but owning the album twice over doesn't make you exempt.

Download it anyway- there's a ridiculously low chance you'll get caught if you do the deed only once.

If you burn your own music to your own devices thats ok to do. But if you start distributing to others for a price or free then its piracy. People need to stop assuming that artists or companies got their millions and everything is a ok. Artists and companies are paid, correct, but all the other little people whos name you read on the credits that you don't pay attention to get hurt the most, don't worry about the artist or company they got money, but others are being hurt and its only getting worse.

well yes..
downloading copyrighted material in any form from an illegal source is illegal.

u can though get ur own cd's and rip them for ur own personal use..

Don't be a stupe.
