How long does it take to learn the guitar?!

Question: I've gotten my first guitar 2 days ago, I'm teaching myself. I've learned a few chords and I think I am pretty good for only 2 days, I can't change my fingers fast and stuff. How long do you think it will take to play it really well?

That's a great start! You don't have to worry about not being able to change fast yet. Learn some simple songs first, surf for videos in some sites and other learning materials that will help you progress. Don't get tired of learning and don't get frustrated when you can't play something. Be patient, because it's what everyone needs in learning something new. Learning is a long process and you can only keep progressing. So I can't give you a definite time frame but maybe in a year's time, you'll be able to play a wide variety of songs and maybe even get to perform in small groups any song that you, or they, enjoy. Keep playing!

Depends on how patient you are, best practice song is Perfect - Simple Plan

I think it all depends on your commitment to playing it. If you really love it and you practice all the time, you can be really good at it. But if you don't care much for it then it could take you a lot longer time to get really good. Also, the changing fingers takes time and practice too, so practice and take your time. Some people can get it down right away and some people take a little longer; we're all different. Hope that helps!

thats not so bad for only 2 days of playing. but be careful tho, your fingers would start hurting like hell if you play too much in such a short time. i also taught myself how to play and it probably took me a year to learn chords and strumming (maybe less.) if i were you, buy 1 of those chord posters and stick it on your wall, sit in front of it and start learning all the minor and major chords. trust me, you'll be an expert in no time.

good luck!

It should take the rest of your life if you have the passion to play. I am 51 years old and still practice daily so I can play well with my Praise Band on Saturday nights. I try to learn new licks, perfect current song styles and generally have fun with playing.
