Best Metal Guitar...?!

Question: I want to get a Gibson or a Fender. I've been thinking about a Fender Strat, but I heard that it's not really "metal material". What are the best types of Gibsons and Fenders that are metal material?
Thanks!

Fender or Gibson for metal?
I've owned both. An SG special, a Flying V, an ES-345, a Firebird V, 2 strats + 2 Ibanez RG770DX and a Yamaha Rgx820Z.

Fender? A strat with a hot humbucker - as HSS or HSH configuration would be best.
Gibson? depends on your tastes in look & feel. Les Pauls are heavy and too expensive for what they are while SG's tend to be lighter and more comfortable to play an sound as good as any Paul.

Firebirds are so cool but very heavy, poorly balanced on a strap (the neck goes south if you're not careful) The studio models are better all way around for balance and comfort - great tone - between strat and les paul. The studio model is better for metal though the mini buckers are unique in tone.

If you want to spend lots of bucks for the best - get a Warrior - not a crappy Jackson warrior but a Warrior Soldier or Isabella from www.warriorinstruments.com.

A good strat is hard to beat for a general lower cost instrument. Gibsons don't have tremolos either except the crappy kind that detune the guitar as soon as you touch it!

Ibanez is way better than either for metal and shred. Great guitars - even the cheaper ones like the RD350DX (350$) are excellent metal and shred guitars.

good shopping... ;-)

les paul

Don't go with Fender. That kind of guitar is for people like in the band Matchbook Romance or something emo like that. Ha. Without a doubt in my mind, get a Gibson. Preferably an SG by Gibson.

The Stratocaster is more blues based. It sounds beautiful for solos and what not though. If you're looking for a more metal sound I would go with a Gibson Explorer,Jackson, or a Parker.

If you really like strats I would suggest a Stratocaster HSS with a double coil in the bridge position. It will give you "hotter" pick up tone and better sustain. A strat can be used for any type of music as long as you have the right amp, pickup and effects package. Obviously the person above has never heard of Iron Maiden .

I don't think either of them are really good for metal, but Gibson is the better choice. It has a much heavier tone overall. But that doesn't mean you can do the same with the Fender. If you really want a Fender, you could buy one and adjust the pickups to something that sounds heavier.

The best choice for a Gibson is the Flying V, it's very versatile.

I think the best choice for metal is either Ibanez, Jackson, or ESP.
