Piano playing advice?!
Question: My 12 year old wants to know how to play the piano. We sadly can't afford one at the time, and she's had no musical experience but playing the recorder for about 2 years in school. Do you have any advice on piano playing and what I should teach her first? I don't have any musical experience either but I did play the tuba in my high school years. Any advice would help.

The "C" scale is the easiest scale to teach. It has no sharps or flats. Just start with "C" (the note to the left of the 2 black keys and play each consecutive note until you get to the next "C". YOU have just played the "C" scale. There is a piano book I played from when I was just starting out. It was John Thompson's first grade piano book. The first song was very simple; called Music Land. If you can find this book at a music store that sells sheet music, it will be a good start for her.
well, u r saying u dont have any musical experience.......so its better to have piano coaching class...........or if u know something about musics, u should purchase a book regarding basics of piano. all the best.......
This is the perfect time of year to get an inexpensive touch sensitive keyboard, look for one that has a foot pedal if you want to be more authentic but if you can't find that, a touch sensitive keyboard alone will be pretty good. Get some beginner piano books at a music store. You might want to try walmart or some other department store for a touch sensitive keyboard this time of year. If you go to radioshack or a regular music store, it could be as much as a $100 more for the same keyboard. Do price them out to be sure of this though.
I begged my mom for piano stuff since I was 4 and she never took me seriously and now I am sad because I don't know how to play really. I had a semester of lessons in college though so I do know what I'm talking about. I'm glad you're taking your kid seriously.
Chances are good that your child will be able to learn some from just looking at the books and trying it out since they are 12.
If you have any friends that play piano, maybe they would be willing to give him/her a couple lessons?
Do you have any friends that own a piano?? Maybe checking with them, or find a used music store to see what you come up with. Check with your church and see if they would let her practice playing on a piano there. I grew up playing the piano but haven't had the chance to continue. You will find a way, it would be great if she could do that.
