One of the greast singers in rock history commits suicide. I've loved these guys since I heard them as a kid and wore out records and CD's listening over and over again. Why do great people have to commit suicide?

well, these "great people" get lonely more often than we do.. and they sure handled it the harder way..

They can not handle their fame. While glamourous, it is a hard life to live. There are a lot of expectations on celebrities, and while they enjoy their fame, they can not be normal and a sense of balance is difficult while their careers define them.
Suicide is the weak persons answer to deal with imbalance and depression. While their God-given talent was great- the people themselves are not great. A truly great person can overcome adversity and oppression and make things better- not the person who is given everything and still bails out.
Admire the people who choose to live- not the fools who choose to die.
It just means that they cannot handle fame. Despite the screaming crowds all shouting their love and accolades, some famous people still feel alone and unloved because they know that it's not the real 'person' that they are that the fans love -- it's their celebrity, the perceived persona the public makes up. These celebrities know that they are as ordinary as the next guy with faults and failures but they also believe in the hype attributed to them. Because of this they can't cope. Most of them find solace in alcohol and drugs. They don't know that alcohol and drug abuse will only balm the feelings so much. Eventually it's going to drive them further into paranoia where suicide is the only way out.
