I'm starting guitar and...?!

Question: I'm starting guitar, and this is the equipment I've decided to get:
- Fender Standard Stratocaster (should I get a maple or rosewood fingerboard? What's the difference?)
- Amp combo from fender (Idk which one yet though)
- Cables, picks, strap (probably from Rebel Strap), etc.

Is there anything I'm missing? (Make some corrections/ suggestions to my equipment if you want) I'm totally clueless, and I'm completely lost. I need a lot of help.
By the way, I'd like to play hardcore/metal stuff like Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, etc.
And when you answer, can you also say how long you've been playing, what kind of stuff you play, and some bands that influence your playing ? Thanks.

I'd stick with a stratocaster but get one with the humbucker in the bridge (HSS) as it will give you alot more versatility and will help you get a lot closer to the to the Hardcore/metal tones you want but you'd still be able to switch back to a classic strat sound. Maple necks are brighter than rosewood. Some people think one is better than the other i don't notice a difference.

Fender make some beautiful amps but I'd stay away from the cheap solid state amps like the frontman. i'd take a look at a roland cube/microcube or a vox valvetronix/DA5 depending on your requirements.

If your just starting out buy a cheap electronic tuner and cables, gigbag etc...

First off, you rock for wanting to play guitar. it's a great instrument and you can realyl get creative with it.

Strats are great guitars. My firsst electric was a fender strat and I still play it today. Not sure if it is the greatest guitar for metal though. Other companies like Jackson or Ibanez might be better for that. I suggest going to a guitar store and they will be happy to find you a good fit. People may disagree with me but maple vs. rosewood doesn''t really make much of a difference. Especially when you are first starting out. Rosewood is supposed to be fuller and resonate better but I can never tell.

For an amp you may want to get one with effects built in so that you don't have to go buy a bunch of pedals. Especially if you want to play metal and need that super heavy distortion. Fender has some good combos with these feature or line 6 have OK ones, but they can get expensive.

Sounds like you have everything covered though. I suggest you get an electric tuner as well. Helps alot if y ou have never tuned a guitar before.

Oh yeah, I play primarily a Gibson Standard DC through a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10 all tube combo. I like tones of music but prefer blues, funk, and indie stuff.
