How do i make vlc media player, or media player classic, my default player?!

Question: my computer keeps opening windows media player as default
but i would prefer "vlc" as my default

I can't stand windows media player! Find the files you want (mp3, avi etc), right click one and select 'properties'. Near the top of the box it will say Open with: click the button and choose VLC. Make sure the box is ticked to say always open with this program.
