Question: I suppose you can go three different ways with that question...
1. Yeah it's the "Heroes" symbol for the show, which the writers say it means "godsend" and such.
2. It's an indicator that Jessica is in control.
3. The scientific meaning is that it's also a helix from a RNA strand, which deals with DNA and all.

Jessica's tattoo not existing on Niki's back may mean a temporal connection between the characters.
Niki having this disorder would not explain the fact that she gets a tattoo when Jessica's in control.
It means godsend.
The sign means Godsend. It is seen throughout the 1st and 2nd season. The earliest I can think of it being seen would be on the book of evolution written by Mohinder's father in season 1.

It is also seen as a kind of pendant when Peter is found inside a container and in a amnesiac state. It is later seen again on him when he gets a a tattoo.
