Is it possible to download tv programs?!

Question: until last nite i had a dvd recorder but that has just died on me!! what i wanted to know was is there a site where i could download tv programs??? i know a while back you could download movies from sky if you had the movies package!! do any other channels such as fx, tcm, film 4 do this??
any suggestions????
