Put in a old romantic movie that they both like.

Tickets to a show and dinner and some candles and bottle of wine or sparkling grape juice and a romantic cd.
I would also add some cheese and bread and olives and two pretty wine glasses. And maybe a few chocolates or chocolate covered strawberries. Then I would leave and let them enjoy the night.
What are there hobbies? Golf? Reading? Think of thoughtful things that would apply to them. Are they big coffee drinkers? Maybe Starbucks and and cool travel coffee mugs. I know I always love to get a gift certificate for a message! Good luck!

treat them to dinner and a movie. or a gift certificate to one of their favorite stores. be sure to include a thoughtful thank you card (there's no better way to show appreciation than a thank you from the heart.) maybe throw in just some little things, candy, flowers (for your mom)
Things that you know they like. Wine and cheese and crackers and a good movie. A good book. An offer to do something really nice for them that they need done. It is especially nice to get some help with something as one gets older, so in a nice card offer to help them paint or plant or something that you know they need. Another thing would be an invite to a nice dinner together or a little side trip to a movie or museum or somewhere you know they love.
I would put in gift certificates to a restaurant that they like, or for an activity they like to do, i.e. theatre, golfing. Another idea is make a fruit basket, adding chocolates, cookies, magazines. If you want to be really creative, and don't mind forking out, Send them to a restaurant in a limousine that will then take them on a tour of the city before bring them home.
